The answer is Mosaic
Also known as the NCSA Mosaic, the Mosaic was popularized as
the WWW and the internet. It was a client for protocols like FTP, Gopher, and
Network News Transfer Protocol.
Its reliability and simple installation all
contributed to its popularity on the web and Microsoft operating Systems as
well. At the time of its release in 1993, the Mosaic was free software
available only on Unix. The NCSA, however, put Mosaic on both Mac and windows
in the late 1993.
