first, turn the mixed numbers into a improper fraction.
 next, find the GCF (greatest common factor)
  finally, subtract the numerator, and your done!
P.s. I'm in middle school too. and i get A+ in math

make the denominator the same then do it like you would normal fractions
u make the denominator the same by multipying the top and bottom by same # to get the denominator of one fraction to match the other
