In ±rance agricultural production was carried out by small peasant Farmers. This group also sufered From competition From imports. The peasants were enFranchised in the Third Republic and in 1889 a protectionist majority was elected to the Chamber oF Deputies. This govt. enacted the Meline Tarif oF 1892. This act placed protectionist tarifs on agricultural products and retailned industrial protections oF an earlier tarif act oF 1881.
