remember you can do ANTYHING to an equation as long asyou do it to both sides

12.2-N=3.3
minus 3.3 both sides
12.2-3.3-N=3.3-3.3
8.9-N=0
add N to both sides
8.9+N-N=0+N
8.9+0=N
8.9=N
