Shylock as greedy as he could be but one cannot ignore his unbound love for his daughter Portia. The character of Shylock is open to many other interpretations and that's why he is my favourite character in the play.
Portia is definitely the most important character in Shakespeare's Merchant of Venice . I would even say that it is Portia who is the hero of story ,for, it is she who saves the day .
