Figurative language is using a word or phrase by giving it a specific meaning that may be different from it's literal meaning. The figurative language used here is personification. Personification gives human characteristics to inanimate objects, animals or ideas. Since the guitar is a non-living thing, it could not sing, in a literal sense.
