Atomic energy in power plants is created via nuclear fission reaction.

In this reaction, uranium atom is bombarded with neutrons which causes it to split in lighter nuclei with the release of heat energy. This heat energy is used to boil water which derives a steam turbine to generate electricity. It is a clean source of energy and helps us to conserve non-renewable energy resources.
